The Battlefield is in the central part of the state. The Park Visitor Center is in the northwest corner of Murfreesboro, twenty-seven miles southeast of Nashville on Highway US 41/70S.

POINTS OF INTEREST
The fierce mid-Winter battle, which began the federal offensive to trisect the Confederacy, took place here December 31, 1862 to January 2, 1863. Stones River National Cemetery--6,831 interments, 2,562 unidentified--adjoins the Park; grave space not available.
Living history programs are offered mid-June through August on weekends. Hiking trails consist of two- and five-mile trails and shorter interpretive trails along the auto tour. Food, supplies, and overnight accommodations are available in Murfreesboro and other areas within five miles of the Park.
